The Sufferettes 2014 Tour of Toronto!

 

Friends, Torontonians, Countrypeople!

The Sufferettes are on the verge of launching our 2014 Tour of Toronto.

After years of spending our springs touring overseas, we have decided to spend this year at home and finally visit all the wonderful comedy shows (and more) in our fair city. Included in the tour are shows we have never done, some classic favourites and a little mutli-disciplinary action. Like what? well, we are designing a set for Trampoline Hall, screening videos at festivals and even interacting with archival video at our VideoHag show at VideoFag.

We also doing shows in various neighbourhoods and even a couple wherein you can come up on stage and do scenes with us!

We are very excited to adventure through our own city as we have through others and hope that you will all come join us. It's a great way to check out this amazing amount of comedy in this city.

Prigs in Space.

The Sufferettes just wrapped up our very first-ever endurance improv show - 50 straight hours of large-ensemble adventure as part of The London Jam. What an interesting experience it was. What thrills! What madness! Set on the intergalactic cruise liner, Xanadu, we experience genuine manic hysterics, performed through perceptive hallucinations and galavanted around in a surprising wealth of actual good narrative and relationship. We were extra fortunate to end up in long narrative arcs with old pals Chris Craddock and Tess Degenstein and new pal, Alex Bartram. We could get into tales of the hijincks our characters (Dame Heave Garbage and Nurse Fart Garbage from the planet Shrit) got into, but really, it would not make much sense. Also, lots of it is gross.

Huge thanks to Adam Meggido, Extempore Theatre and the entire production and support crew for making the festival and improvathon happen and inviting us into it all. Also to the fantastic cast of improvisers, a great many of whom were unknown to us before our rendezvous in Xanadu. We were blown away!

London 50 Hour Improvathon!

Wow, guys, only ten days until we embark on an epic journey to do improv for an uninterrupted and ungodly amount of time. If you are in London, England, you should come out for some (if not all) of it! Check out the video above for more tantalizing details!

Half Hearted.

 

A huge thank you to Reverend Aitor for delivering this absolutely stunning tour poster to us recently. The retired Reverend is notoriously difficult to find these days, so we are deeply honoured that he decided to take this project on with such fervour.

 

He also decided to name our 2013 tour 'Half Hearted'. Hopefully this name does not speak to our skill or commitment. We happily accept most insinuations of our dual brokenness.

The Sufferettes have been hibernating (ie. doing tonnes of separate projects for a few months). But now we are making plans, like all hearty Canadian girls, to come out of our caves in the spring. We have some exciting booking in Europe and elsewhere to announce soon but we also have a little room left in our 2013 European tour. Want to bring us to your town? This might be possible.

Parrott Eggs.

Submitted for your approval here is a great gift that we received from our friend Henk van der Steen from Amersterdam. When we were at the Improsante festival with him in Sarnen, we took great pleasure at listening to him say 'parrott eggs' in Dutch - a process that involved almost no closing of his mouth. very exciting, indeed.

We we asked for a recording for our own edification, he one-upped the request by playing with his new ipad a bit. We expect this will be the next dance hit to sweep Europe.

Würzburg Morning

It's Monday morning and I'm sipping on coffee the same colour as the rooftops outside the kitchen window. It's my day off and so far I've eaten some Nutella and read the first three pages of a book I'm sure I won't finish on this tour. I always think I'll read more than I do.

Becky is at Cairo, the culture house where we've been teaching in Würzburg. The last two days I spent my time working with an amazing group of improvisers. My little heart was beating quickly Saturday morning as I walked up to the looming stone structure where we'd be spending our time. I know I can spend twelve hours with myself, but I couldn't imagine why anyone else would. My fears disappeared after the first hour when I realized that even though we didn't all share the same mother tongue, we did all want to have a good time. Thank goodness for the deep fountain of positivity that can be improvisation. In the end, I felt really inspired by the work we did. It's been a pretty sweet beginning to the tour. It helps that our beautiful host, Nadine, has made us feel at home here.

Würzburg is really beautiful and today I will set out explore. My naive Canadian eyes can't get enough of the pastel coloured buildings that line the river just outside our bedroom window. They stand like polite old men, wearing bright sweaters their wives bought them. Despite the clouds that rolled in this morning (oh yeah, did you hear that Toronto? I wore a tank top to dinner last night!), I think I shall try and get lost in the streets today. Take that, Becky!

No Jackets!

Is it snowing in Toronto right now? Huh. Anyway...

Würzburg.

We can only teach and perform in big stone buildings with very few windows. Thank goodness Würzburg has one of those.
